Land and territory Acknowledgement

We begin by acknowledging Turtle Island (North America) and the good life that this land provides.

Milestone Foster Homes is situated on the ancestral, treaty and title lands of the Anishinaabek Ojibwe Michi Saagiig Nation, now known as the Mississaugas of the Credit. Since time immemorial, this land has been home to Indigenous peoples. As settlers to this land, we acknowledge and feel gratitude for the generations of people who have cared for this land and who have made it possible for us to live, work and gather here.

Historically, the child welfare system has engaged in colonial practices that have and continue to traumatize generations of indigenous families and their communities. As members of this system, Milestone is committed to ongoing learning from our Indigenous partners as we move towards reconciliation and better, informed work.

We are encouraged to pause, consider the land where we hold space, and reflect on the sacrifices that came before us. In so doing, our hope is that each of us may accept our responsibilities for our active and passive participation and may move forward in ways that support better listening, more learning, culturally sensitive actions, and ongoing self-reflection.
